If Aquaman Was a Pro Golfer...
Since the release of the latest DC comics movie, Aquaman, I have wondered - which PGA TOUR golfer best represents Aquaman’s qualities? If we had a golfer Aquaman, who would that be from the pro circuit?
In order to answer the question, we take a deep dive on the origins of Aquaman as well as an in-depth look at his qualities and characteristics to gauge which pro golfer fits the bill.
At a high level, here is Aquaman’s player profile:
Name: Aquaman
Born: November, 1941
Title: King of Atlantis
Alter Ego: Arthur Curry, Jason Day
Other nicknames: Orin, The King of the Seven Seas, The Aquatic Ace, The Marine Marvel
Notable accomplishments: Founder of the Justice League
Abilities:
Aquatic physiology superhuman strength, speed, endurance, agility, durability, reflexes, and senses
Telepathic control of all aquatic life
Super-fast swimming
Able to speak and understand any language on earth
Utilizes the Trident of Poseidon
Hydrokinesis (alternate continuities)
One of the most distinguishing features of Aquaman is his ability to represent both land and the depths of the ocean. With an understanding of both, Aquaman is able to prevent a ‘war of the worlds’ so-to-speak, and allow the two worlds to live in harmony.
Aquaman has unparalleled strength, but his use of the Sacred Trident, the trident that is given only to the one worthy King, is what separates him as an elite super hero. Aquaman didn’t seek to become King of Atlantis - he was left no choice. If he failed, a war would have ignited with an attack from the sea on the land that would cause massive destruction and casualties. Aquaman was deemed worthy for the Trident of Poseidon because he did not seek to become King for the sake of power - he sought to become King for the sake of the people, for the sake of delivering peace between the two worlds.
So, we ask ourselves - what golfer could best represent the strength, the ideological viewpoints, the selfless leadership, and unification of worlds that Aquaman possesses? After thorough analysis (drumroll please) we nominate.....Jason Day as golf’s Aquagolfer.
Here’s why:
Unification - Jason doesn’t feud with Europe and America in the Ryder Cup, he’s a symbol of Team World.
Trident - every club is Jason Day’s trident but - his most important - and the most important for all golfers - is his putter. Day ended the season with .849 strokes gained putting making him the best putter in the world.
Flow - Jason Day once touted an aggressive amount of flow - pretty close to the level of Aquaman.
Under dog - Jason is an under dog story. His first club was a 3 wood from a dumpster because his family was poor. Aquaman found his way to throne despite being half blood. Both are tails of under dogs, who overcame great obstacles to achieve greatness.
Zen - Aquaman can speak to the mammals of the sea and give them direction. He connects on a deeper level with a world others don’t understand. In that way, Jason Day does the same - the way he closes his eyes and visualizes the outcome of a golf shot he wants to see. Jason leverages his power of the mind in every single round he competes in by visualizing, and in a way speaking to the golf ball.
Congratulations to Jason Day on all of his accomplishments - for he has earned the high honor of Aquagolfer as dedicated by the golfballin crew.
