Gregatron's POTW: Wells Fargo Championship
Gregatron’s been on a cold streak the last two weeks. Two MCs from the top picks is making things tough on the scoreboard. This week is the week to turn it around. The Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow is one of the most exciting tournaments of the PGA Tour regular season. Colloquially called “The Green Mile,” the course meanders through a series of difficult par-3s and 4s until the final three holes, giving make-or-break opportunities to leaders and pursuers alike. McIlroy seems to own this place, racking up two wins with low scoring weeks, but the average score falls between 8 and 12 under par. If you tune in on Saturday or Sunday, look for some big numbers from the leaders on 16, 17 and 18. Should be fun to watch.
Gregatron’s Pick of the Week: Rory McIlroy
The Northern Irishman is having a spectacular season. With seven top-10s in nine starts, golf’s golden boy is primed and ready for another blowout season. He already has a victory at the Players’ Championship and is gaining 2.7 strokes on the field each round. Wait...2.7 strokes?! On a major championship course, with two wins in his pocket, I think this is a sure bet. Rory will keep his streak going and notch another W heading into the PGA Championship. Go get ‘em cowboy.
Back to the Range Bro: Cameron Champ
The rookie is hitting an early sophomore slump after starting off the year so hot. His victory and three top-10s are quickly overshadowed by the five missed cuts in a row. On a course that awards accuracy and short game prowess, Champ isn’t the perfect match. He’s 193rd in driving accuracy and losing 0.6 shots around the green on the season. I hope a break is in his future so he can recharge and finish out a solid rookie campaign.
