Welcome to the West Coast Swing, golf fans! The PGA Tour is stopping at a favorite watering hole in Palm Springs, California for what used to be known as the Bob Hope Classic. This is one of the few events left on tour where amateur celebrities tee it up with the big guns. Who can forget iconic moments like 3 presidents playing in the same group in 1995, Arnold Palmer shooting his age in 2001, or David Duval’s 59 to win in 1999! The stars are out, and the golf will be just as exciting.
Top Pick: Charles Howell III
Good ole’ Chuck is off to a fast start in 2019. He’s always been a top ten machine, and this year is no exception. He’s averaging 67.5 his last 12 rounds and gains 1.5 strokes on the field each round. On top of that, he’s finished in the top 20 the last three years at the Desert Classic. Given his recent play, there’s no doubt Chucky will be at the top on Sunday.
Back to the Range Bro: Phil Mickelson
We love Phil, but I think this week will be a tune up for his season. If you’ve followed his recent social media exploits, you’ll notice a lot of skiing and practicing in flip flops. He may come back with a fresh attitude, maybe even a bit of confidence from his pillow fight victory against Tiger woods in “The Match,” but he’s only shot in the 60s 6 times in his last 16 rounds. He’ll need to average 66 to realistically have a chance this week. Prove us wrong, Phil!
