Gregatron's POTW: The 3M Open

Another new tournament is in the rotation this week at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota. With only a couple more reps before the British Open, the PGA Tour players are grinding for the last spots into the year’s final major. Wait...it’s already almost the end of the major season? Crazy to think how fast the weeks are flying by but hopefully a little hometown flavor can slow us all down at TPC Twin Cities. This tournament is actually switching from the PGA Tour Champions to the PGA Tour this year, an interesting change after a 26 year run as one of the more fun tournaments on the senior tour. With Brooks Koepka and Phil in the field, this is bound to be a good shootout.

Gregatron’s Pick of the Week: Charles Howell III

Chucky Three-Sticks is having a banner year with 4 top-tens, a win and 9 top-25s. More importantly, he’s gaining ground on the field in every major statistical category, even ranked as high as 14th in short game and 5th in greens hit. He was close to the top of the leaderboard going into the weekend at the Rocket Mortgage Classic before fading. I think this week will turn out a little differently. With how consistent a player he is, Charles will have a two win season one of these years, why not 2019?

Back to the Range Bro: Bryson Dechambeau

He recovered from a mid-season slump, logging an 8th place finish at the Travelers a couple weeks ago. Glad to see he’s back on the horse, but he’s still not hitting enough greens with that fine tuned swing (ranked 133rd). Matched with a below average short game, I think Bryson will need to log a few more practice sessions before heading to Northern Ireland in a couple weeks. He may have the weekend to start working on that.
